Sadler's Wells - Brazilian Carnival - Saturday 22 July 2006

As part of the BBC's Big Dance Event, Sadler's Wells is bringing a taste of
Brazil to the streets of London. On Saturday 22nd July there will be a day
of Brazilian festivities, including a colourful carnival procession in
Islington which will feature London's best Brazilian carnival groups.
Rhythmic baterias, twirling baianas, towering puppets will  all parade down
Rosebery Avenue to Exmouth Market to the beat of samba, returning to
Sadler's Wells for the procession's culmination, a frenzy of mass samba
dancing on the streets outside Sadler's Wells.

The carnival will bring together people of all ages; including Sadler's
Wells over 60s group, children from local schools and families. It will
attract people from across London as well as local Islington residents and
London's Latin American communities. In the lead up to the day there will be
workshops in Brazilian dance, music and carnival costume making to engage
groups and individuals from the local community.

The event coincides with Sadler's Wells' summer of Latin American dance
which includes internationally renowned Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta,
scintillating new samba music and dance show from Rio de Janeiro.
